Bellin Run Kickoffs: Corporate Challenge/Kids for Running Programs

February 22, 2010

“Biggest Loser: Couples” celebrities Kristin Steede and Cathy Skell will be the guest speakers during kickoff events for the Bellin Run Corporate Challenge and the Kids for Running program.

The 34th annual Bellin Run will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 12. The 10K (6.2-mile) race winds through the streets of Green Bay and the nearby village of Allouez. A record-breaking 16,746 people registered for the race in 2009.

Both kickoffs are on Tuesday, March 2 at 855 Lombardi Ave., Green Bay. The Corporate Challenge kickoff will be held at 7:30 a.m. The Kids for Running kickoff is at 6:30 p.m.

Steede and Skell of Greenville and Shiocton, respectively, will share their experience of competing on NBC’s “The Biggest Loser: Couples” and how adapting healthy habits has changed their lives forever. The mother and daughter team lost a combined 262 pounds on the reality TV show – where overweight contestants try to lose weight for a cash prize.

The Corporate Challenge is a wellness program where local companies go head-to-head in friendly competition while promoting a healthier lifestyle. The program last year drew 130 company teams with 5,311 participants, 1,042 of which were first-timers.

There is no charge to the company to join. Employees pay the normal Bellin Run registration fee. The company and team enjoy the benefits, including an employee training program, pasta dinner discounts, free Corporate Challenge training T-shirts and much more.

The Kids for Running program is a training program for children in grades 3-8 that prepares them for the Bellin Run, helps build self-esteem, develops a sense of teamwork and increases fitness levels. More than 2,660 kids and trainers from 49 area schools took part in last year’s Bellin Run Kids for Running program.
