Bellin Run Record Holder Dies

November 14, 2012

Joseph Kimani of Kenya, the course record holder for the Bellin Run, died from complications from pneumonia on November 1. He was 40 years old.

Kimani’s lightening quick 27:46 time, set in 1997, still remains unbeaten as the overall course record for the Bellin Run.

Randy Van Straten, Bellin Run executive race director, expressed condolences upon hearing news of Kiman’s death.

“It’s very sad news,” he said. “Joseph has passed. He was a great, great competitor and served to further solidify our annual road race as one for elite athletes to seriously consider. And of course, we can never forget his record-setting and still standing run at Bellin in 1997.”
