Bellin Run Offers Deferment Option, Adds Cooling Buses
June 10, 2016
Deferment
With temperatures now forecasted to reach into the mid to upper 80s by 10 a.m. Saturday, Bellin Run race officials have implemented the option for participants to defer their event entry to 2017.
This added precaution allows registrants to notify Bellin Run officials that they do not wish to participate in this year’s event due to the heat. This includes – but is not limited to – those with pre-existing medical conditions, those who are pregnant, young children, the elderly, individuals with a history of heat-related issues and those who have not trained in the heat or who lack adequate cardiovascular conditioning.
Those choosing to defer will have their race entry shifted to the 2017 Bellin Run. Those who have picked up their shirt may keep it. Those who have not will be provided with a time to pick up their shirt after the race – at a to-be-determined date, time and location.
To defer your 2016 Bellin Run entry to 2017, send an email to [email protected] with the subject line: DEFERMENT. Include your name, bib number (if known), birthdate and email address. A reason for deferment does not need to be provided.
Cooling Buses
Bellin Run officials have added extra water to each water station and added ice and misting stations to the course. As another precaution, three additional cooling buses have been added to the course, bringing the total to five cooling buses on the course for participants.
The air conditioned coach buses are clearly marked with First Aid signs and allow participants a place to cool down should they be affected by the heat. The buses are staffed by EMS personnel.
Participants may ride theses buses to the finish area or they may exit the buses should they feel well enough to resume participating.
