Bellin Run Organizers Just Want Your Feet on the Street
June 2, 2014
The Bellin Run drew 20,000 registrants in 2013. Those are great numbers, but what’s more important, organizers say, is that the community gets off the couch and onto the streets.
Linda Maxwell, assistant race director for the Bellin Run, says the annual run/walk is more about helping the community along the path to fitness, than about breaking registration records.
“We really are about getting feet on the street, as we like to say,” Maxwell explained. “That means we want to act as a vehicle through which people in our community begin their journey to better health and wellness.
“If you train for the Bellin Run, you are doing your body some good. And when you do your body some good, you typically will feel in better shape and consequently, experience better overall health physically and mentally. That’s our goal here, to help improve the overall health and wellness of our community through our annual run/walk. The Bellin Run is a starting point, in that regard, not a finish line.”
To that end, organizers have created a calendar listing of community running and walking events, many of which are not at all connected to the Bellin Run.
One such running event does, however, have a connection to the Bellin Run – the Titletown Wellness Race Series. The race series consists of six races: the Bellin Run; the Packers 5K Run; the Shanty Day’s 5K Run/Walk; the City Stadium Run 5K; the Baird Creek Trail Run 5K; and the Festival Foods Turkey Trot 5 Mile.
Anyone who registers and participates in one of the race series individual events is automatically entered into the series.
“This general listing of running and walking events is our way of helping the community continue down the road to improved fitness and wellness long after the Bellin Run has ended,” Maxwell said. “Training for any of these community run/walks will keep you moving down the path to improved well-being, and that’s what we’re all about here at the Bellin Run.”
The 38th annual Bellin Run is scheduled for 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 14. Registration is $25 through June 1.
