Charity Events to Feature Bellin Run Elites

Friday Fun Run, Luncheon are Public’s Chance to Hobnob with Running Greats

Bellin Run participants and members of the public are invited to kick off their race weekend by running and dining with world-class athletes — and it’s all for a great cause.

Two charity events on Friday, June 12 will allow individuals the chance to rub elbows with running greats in exchange for a charitable donation that will benefit local organizations myTEAM TRIUMPH and Thrive. After the success of last year’s charity events featuring 2014 Boston Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi, this year’s run and luncheon will feature all the 2015 elites — again including the ever-popular “Meb.”

“This is a tremendous opportunity for members of the public to get up close and personal with an unbelievable group of star athletes,” said Bellin Run Executive Race Director Randy Van Straten. “And the fact that all proceeds will benefit these terrific local organizations — I can’t think of a better way to get race weekend started.”

The Friday events are as follows:

Run with Greatness Charity Fun Run
8-9 a.m. Friday, June 12, Astor Park (S. Clay Street between Porlier and Eliza streets), Green Bay
Sponsored by Bellin Run and Press-Gazette Media

Run alongside and swap stories with running legends and elites at this Friday morning charity
2-mile fun run. Legends and elites include Bill Rodgers, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Uta Pippig, Meb Keflezighi, Lani Rutto, Risper Gesabwa, Allan Kiprono, Kellyn Taylor and more.

Participants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and group photo, along with a post-race breakfast. Charity Run registration is $50 per person and is available online at http://bellinruncharityfunrun.eventbrite.com.

Join us at the Titletown Brewing Company Tap Room to celebrate 39 years of the Bellin Run with legendary runners Meb Keflezighi and Joan Benoit Samuelson, as well as rising American star Kellyn Taylor. These athletes will share their inspiring stories and be available for pictures and autographs.
Keflezighi — better known as simply “Meb” in the running world — also will have books available for purchase, and he will be happy to autograph them.

About myTEAM TRIUMPH
myTEAM TRIUMPH is a non-profit athletic ride-along program created for children, teens, adults and veterans with disabilities who would normally not be able to experience such events as the Bellin Run. With the assistance of volunteer “angels” and specialized equipment, myTEAM TRIUMPH “captains” will experience the thrill of crossing the finish line at Friday Night’s TRIUMPH Mile and Saturday’s Bellin Run.
