Ex-reality star to kickoff Kids for Running program
February 18, 2011
Sarah Reinertsen, a former contestant on the reality television show, “The Amazing Race,” will help kickoff the 2011 Kids for Running program.
Reinertsen, the first female leg amputee to complete the Ironman Triathlon World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, will help encourage children in grades 3 through 8 to get more active by participating in the Kids for Running program to train for the Bellin Run. She’ll share her personal triumphs over adversity as motivation for the children.
The kickoff event will be held from 6:30-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at the Riverside Ballroom, 1560 Main St., Green Bay. A light dinner will be provided.
The Kids for Running training program draws thousands of school-aged kids from schools in Wisconsin and Michigan. The program culminates in the 10K (6.2-mile) Bellin Run when the Kids for Running students and schools merge with the rest of the attendees on race day in a true community event.
The 2010 Kids for Running program drew 3,005 children from 59 schools. Participation in the program has steadily increased each of the last six consecutive years.
The 35th annual Bellin Run will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 11. The 10K (6.2-mile) race winds through the streets of Green Bay and the nearby village of Allouez. A record-breaking 18,398 people registered for the race in 2010.
