Former Green Bay Packers president joins the Bellin Run

June 7, 2011

This year, the Bellin Run may exceed 20,000 registrants for the first time – each participant with a unique journey that will lead them to the Webster Avenue start line on Saturday, June 11. One such journey is that of former Green Bay Packers president John Jones, who has overcome extreme odds to participate in the 35th annual Bellin Run.

It has been a long journey for Jones, reaching the pinnacle of his career only to have it taken away due to a medical crisis.

On May 30, 2006, Jones finally realized his dream job of becoming president of the Packers.  Just 12 short days later, Jones’ dream ended when he suffered an aortic dissection and stroke, resulting in permanent cognitive changes, including damage to his short term memory.

Since that day, Jones has dedicated his time to sharing his story and message with men, urging them to take their health seriously by shedding their “bulletproof” self images and seeing their doctors for regularly scheduled check ups.

Now, exactly five years to the day since he nearly lost his life, Jones will be participating in his first Bellin Run since his health crisis, a momentous step in his personal health journey.

Bellin Health and Jones share similar missions, striving to encourage people not only to get healthy, but also to stay healthy. The Bellin Run will be a culmination for many participants who maintain a healthy lifestyle, as well as an exciting beginning for others who will be entering the Bellin Run for the first time.

For all those participating in the 35th annual Bellin Run, regardless of where they are on their personal health journeys, there will be a great sense of shared enthusiasm on Saturday, June 11, as nearly 20,000 people line up to start the race. Participants will be encouraging one another and showing a real sense of community.

And, if you see John Jones in Saturday morning’s event, be sure to give him a thumbs up.
