Get Social and #RunYourTown with the Bellin Run
June 1, 2015
The Bellin Run is all about getting you to run your town — and to share that experience using the #RunYourTown hashtag.
Organizers of Green Bay’s signature 10K event are re-energizing a social media campaign begun for the 2014 race, encouraging runners, walkers, spectators and volunteers to use social media channels to share their experiences, engage in discussions and get pumped for race day.
“Last year, more than 18,000 athletes, along with 1,500 volunteers and countless spectators, chose to be a part of our event,” said Dana Bzdawka, who leads the Bellin Run’s marketing efforts. “Social media provides many benefits for an event of this size, including enhanced two-way communication and real-time feedback. Better communication means a better event.”
Social media also allows participants to build camaraderie and share their excitement about the approaching event, trading training tips, encouraging one another and virtually discussing their fitness journey with family and friends. On race day, they — along with event personnel, spectators and the thousands of spectators who line the 6.2-mile course route — are encouraged to use #RunYourTown to create a real-time living history of this year’s race.
“We had some great initial response to and participation in the #RunYourTown campaign in 2014, and we’re looking to build on that excitement for this year’s race,” Bzdawka said. “The hashtag is a call to action, a clever play on words, and it also connects people with their community and the largest running event in the area — the Bellin Run.”
The Bellin Run has Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts, all under the @BellinRun name. Organizers are encouraging the use of the #RunYourTown hashtag on each of these sites.
“Whether you’re an athlete or volunteer, staffer or spectator, we’re all a part of the Bellin Run community,” Bzdawka said. “Social media offers a terrific way to share that commonality, and to encourage others to do the same.”
