New Musical Traditions in Place for the Bellin Run
April 20, 2010
Many Bellin Run participants will agree that one of the memorable highlights of the annual race is hearing the traditional “Rocky” theme song “Gonna Fly Now” by Bill Conti when they turn down Greene Avenue at the 2-mile mark.
This year, race organizers hope to establish some new musical traditions.
At the 1.5-mile mark, participants passing the car wash at the corner of Webster and Allouez avenues will hear the disco-era hit “Car Wash” by Rose Royce.
The local Jimmy Buffett Fan Club will play “Margaritaville” repeatedly on East River Drive as the participants pass the Key West-themed water station at the 3.5-mile marker.
Bethel Baptist Church’s water station on Libal Street will blast Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky” in hopes of offering runners and walkers a little spiritual motivation at the 4.7-mile marker.
Perhaps the most appropriate selection will be at the 5.2-mile mark at Hastings and Clay streets with just under a mile to go, where the final motivational hit will be “Running on Empty” by Jackson Browne.
And yes, runners will still hear the “Rocky” song as they dash down Greene Avenue.
