Why I Run the Bellin Run: Cheryl Corbeille, Black Creek
May 23, 2013
I ran my first Bellin Run in 1980 when I was in high school at the encouragement of my Southwest High School cross country coach, Dave Moore (he has never missed a Bellin Run, ever).
In 1982 I placed third in my age group (under my maiden name, Douglass). I have run a variety of races since then but trained harder than normal last year – the last year before I turned half a century old. I was able to place third again in my age group at the age of 49 (exactly 30 years after last placing third in my age group) and crossed the finish line with Uta Pippig, my role model when I was in my 20s.
I was so excited about this and now that I am 50 I am hopeful that I will be able to place in my age group again this year!
