Why I Run the Bellin Run: Megan Hujet, De Pere
April 30, 2013
Up until mid-2011, I was overweight and never really took the opportunity to change that. At the time, we were living in Texas for my fiancé’s job, and with the constant warm weather we had, we were always outside.
Then one day, something clicked, and I decided that I was going to finally get in shape, lose the weight, and run the Bellin the following year.
We ran every day in that Texas heat (well over 100 degrees most days). Once January 2012 had hit, I had lost 68 pounds, and by the time the race came, I had lost another 11 pounds, for a total of 79 pounds lost.
For the first time, I was able to run the race with my dad, my uncle, my sister, and my fiancé. I used to not be able to even run 1 mile, so 6.2 miles sounded absolutely crazy. I was able to finish it in 55:13, which was a major accomplishment to me.
Now, this spring, I will be running my first half marathon, and then in the summer I will be running the Bellin again, and marrying my best friend.
The Bellin was my inspiration to lose the weight and accomplish something exciting for myself.
