Why I run the Bellin Run: Ronda Hitz, Oshkosh

May 24, 2011

I’ve participated in the Bellin Run since 2006. The first year was to prove to myself that I could do something I never envisioned myself doing – run a road race.

Since then, I have gone on to finish five half marathons and my first triathlon in August of 2010. Still, the Bellin Run remains my favorite event.

The community is so supportive of the run. Seeing all the school children with their teachers and parents participate and thousands of others cheering each other to the finish is a breath-taking sight.

I want my kids to know that anything is possible with training, a positive attitude and a willingness to try something new. I want them to know that they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.

My kids and my husband have been at the finish line every year that I have run in the Bellin Run. To see them cheering me on is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. For me it’s not about being first or even being the fastest. It’s simply about accomplishing a goal I set out to achieve.

My hope is to eventually have my children by my side crossing the finish line and see the look on their faces when they complete their first 10K; walking or running, it doesn’t matter.

Being a part of something greater than yourself, like the Bellin Run, is a priceless experience.
