You’ve Got 12 Weeks. How Will You Use Them?

March 23, 2015

Picture yourself 12 weeks from today.

You’re at the office, perhaps, or out running errands with the kids. Your Monday looks the same as it usually does, but you’re different — healthier, more energetic. And a couple days back, you notched one heck of an accomplishment.

You crossed the finish line at the 39th annual Bellin Run.

Maybe you started from a place where you weren’t running much — or even at all. Maybe you thought the 10K (6.2-mile) distance was too great, or that you wouldn’t have time to train.

And maybe you did it anyway.

The first step you took was making the commitment. You registered for the June 13 event at www.bellinrun.com, paying just $20 for your spot in one of the largest and most renowned 10K races in the country. You told your family and friends, shared it on social media.

“Signing up for a race is a huge motivator in and of itself,” said Bellin Run assistant race director Linda Maxwell. “Once people have made that commitment and shared it with loved ones, they’re more likely to train right, and stick with it. It’s important — and very exciting — to have that end goal in mind.”

Once you registered, you were ready to start training. You found the 12-week training plan at www.bellinrun.com/training, and you joined the Bellin Run team for free training runs at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at Bellin Health Ashwaubenon.

Your training was tough sometimes — after all, you can’t just hop off the couch and run a 10K race. But you found success — and the support of your fellow runners — as the weeks went on.

As race day approached, admittedly you were a little nervous. But your nerves turned to excitement as you felt the energy of the crowd, paused for the sweet sounds of the national anthem — and realized you were really ready to do this.

The race was amazing. Spectators lined the streets, cheering like crazy against a backdrop of high-energy music and second-to-none runner support. Wow, you thought. I’m doing this.
And the feeling when you crossed the finish line? Indescribable.

So here you are, 12 weeks later. You’ve achieved something amazing, and more important, you’ve realized how great it felt to take those steps toward better health. You love how you feel, and you’ve realized you don’t want that feeling to end.

Where will you be in 12 weeks?
